Star puff stitch

Elongated puff stitches form a dense, soft, warm fabric with a texture of horizontal stripes. This version is puffier than the classic star stitch. The stitch looks good in one color or several.

It suits cozy scarves and snoods. The puffy texture also makes a good decorative trim, for example on cardigan collars and cuffs. How puffy the fabric looks depends on the yarn: with a yarn that has good elasticity it looks fuller and more dimensional, while in cotton it is flatter and better suited to table runners and placemats.
